Tubagua Ecolodge was founded in 2008 by the Canadian Honorary Consul in Puerto Plata. It began as a social enterprise to receive student volunteers traveling from North America to work in health and education projects in rural communities.
As time progressed Tubagua evolved to become a rurally themed visitor experience, providing guests comfortable mountaintop accommodation enhanced by beautiful ocean views and a focus on local cuisine; a real Dominican experience away from the big, busy resorts.
Tubagua Ecolodge also works closely with a nearby coffee village, attracting visitors to a coffee tour experience and contributing to the re-vitalization of failing coffee crops through the planting of more than 40,000 coffee trees.
Tubagua contributes to the community by only hiring and training local staff. We are proud to see how many of our team members have improved their quality of life, addressed family health issues and even built new homes, all due to their dedicated work at our lodge.
